A Water Leak Alarm is a type of electronic device which send you an alert if it comes into contact with damp, moisture or water.
Very much like a smoke detector, but for water leaks. Water leak alarms are often referred to as leak alarms, automatic damp sensors, or electronic automatic damp or leak detectors.
They can be used in any commercial or domestic premises to alert residents to the presence of damp or water promptly to make certain that damp or water damage can be reduced by taking care of what’s causing it as fast as the problem is picked up. The basic idea is that they will alert the user to leaks before any major damage occurs.
They are usually about the same size as a smoke alarm and the batteries can be changed in the same way. These types of alarms have sensors located on the feet or side of the case, which can be calibrated at the time of setup to accept the current moisture content levels as regular, and, only if this moisture content is exceeded, will the Water Leak Alarm go off.
A Water Leak Alarm is usually over 80 decibels: Which is about the same noise as a hoover, when you are the one carrying out the hoovering. Contact us today to obtain a free quotation for your Water Leak Alarm installation.
How Does a Water Leak Alarm Work?
Virtually all damp alarms are run by a single battery, which they are typically provided with (normally 9V: PP3 or P9), or, 23A (12V) batteries. If you have an existing fire alarm and burglar alarm system installed, a Water Leak Alarm can be hard wired and integrated in to the existing system. Damp alarms can also be installed as a stand alone system to run off the main power.
For those looking for a low cost option, with no planned works or having to tap into the existing power supply, the battery powered Water Leak Alarm system is recommended.
The sensor on a damp alarm system is found to the side of the case or on the feet as mentioned before: it contains 2 thin wires, located a small length apart. When damp makes contact with the two wires, the resistance between the two is reduced, allowing the current to travel through the circuit to the buzzer, which is started and warns anybody in proximity to the leak.
